Colour
Baked earth tones
Terracotta, clay, ochre and sand are replacing cool greys everywhere. They flatter skin, wood and natural light, and they make a room feel finished even when it is sparsely furnished. On a wall, earth tones work best in broad, simple shapes rather than small busy prints.

The return of the scenic wall
Painted landscapes, the kind once reserved for grand houses, are back in ordinary homes. A scenic mural gives a room a horizon, which is exactly what a small space lacks. The modern version is softer and mistier than the antique originals, closer to a watercolour than a history painting.

Dark, romantic florals
Florals are not going anywhere, but they are getting moodier. Oversized peonies and dahlias on inky grounds feel more like a Dutch still life than a country cottage. They are made for bedrooms and dining rooms, the spaces you use after dark.

- Balance with plain, heavy fabrics: velvet, wool, washed linen

Quiet, tonal texture
Not every wall wants a picture. Tone on tone designs that read as plaster, weave or a soft wash give depth without pattern. It is the grown up alternative to a painted feature wall, and it layers beautifully with art, shelves and mirrors hung on top.

Arches, fans and deco curves
Curves are softening interiors, from sofas to doorways, and walls are following. Arches, fans and scallops borrow from art deco but in chalkier, friendlier colours. They bring rhythm to a room without the stiffness of a strict geometric.
- A natural fit for hallways, landings and dressing rooms
- Echo the curve once in a mirror or a lamp, not everywhere
- Ochre and blush versions feel warm, black and cream feels graphic

Skies and celestial walls
Clouds, dusk gradients and quiet constellations are moving out of the nursery and into adult bedrooms. A sky has no edges, so it makes a room feel larger, and it is one of the few subjects nobody tires of looking at.
